Vincent D. Mattera, Jr - Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Mattera initially served as a member of the II-VI Board from 2000 until 2002. Dr. Mattera joined the Company as Vice President in 2004, and served as Executive Vice President from January 2010 to November 2013, when he became Chief Operating Officer. He was re-appointed to the Board in 2012. In November 2014, Dr. Mattera became the President and Chief Operating Officer. In September 2016, Dr. Mattera became the Company’s third President and Chief Executive Officer in 45 years. During his career at II-VI he has assumed successively broader management roles, including as a lead architect of the Company’s diversification strategy. He has provided vision, energy and dispatch to the Company’s growth initiatives, including overseeing the acquisition-related integration activities in the United States, Europe, and Asia – especially in China – thereby establishing additional platforms. These have contributed to a new positioning of the Company into large and transformative global growth markets while increasing considerably the global reach of the Company, deepening the technology and IP portfolio, broadening the product roadmap and customer base, and increasing the potential of II-VI.
Bob Bashaw - President
Walter R. Bashaw II joined II-VI in 2018 and has been President of the company since July 2019. Mr. Bashaw previously served as Vice President of Strategy. In this role, he was primarily responsible for the company’s M&A and integration work. Prior to joining II-VI, Mr. Bashaw was a senior partner at the law firm of Sherrard, German & Kelly in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his areas of expertise were corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and technology planning. Mr. Bashaw has broad emerging-company experience and regularly works on complex corporate transactions with manufacturing, e-commerce, real estate, medical service providers, and high-tech companies. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1993 and the Maryland bar in 2004. Mr. Bashaw holds a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, from which he graduated cum laude and at which he was the editor-in-chief of the University of Pittsburgh Journal of Law and Commerce. He holds a B.S. in Logistics from the Pennsylvania State University.
Giovanni Barbarossa - Chief Strategy Officer, II-VI Incorporated and President, Compound Semiconductors
Giovanni Barbarossa joined II-VI in 2012 and has been the Chief Strategy Officer of the company and the President of the Compound Semiconductors Segment since July 2019. Previously, he was the Chief Technology Officer of the company and the President of the Laser Solutions Segment. Dr. Barbarossa was employed at Avanex Corporation from 2000 through 2009, serving in various executive positions in product development and general management, ultimately serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer. When Avanex merged with Bookham Technology, forming Oclaro, Dr. Barbarossa became a member of the Board of Directors of Oclaro and served as such from 2009 to 2012. Previously, he had management responsibilities at British Telecom, AT&T Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, and Hewlett-Packard. Dr. Barbarossa graduated from the University of Bari, Italy, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and has a Ph.D. in Photonics from the University of Glasgow, U.K.
Sunny Sun - President, Photonic Solutions
Sunny Sun joined II-VI in 2010 and has been the President of Photonics segment since October, 2016. Previously, he was the General Manager of Optical Communication Group since July 2014, and the President of Photop, a subsidiary of II-VI, since 2010. Prior to II-VI, he served at Koncent Communication, Inc. as the President & CEO from 2000, and at Photop Technologies, Inc. (a merger of Koncent and other companies) as the president from 2003. Previously, he was employed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences as a research scientist on lasers and nonlinear optics development in 1987 and contributed to the invention of LBO crystal for high power lasers in 1989.? Sunny Sun graduated from Tianjin University with a B.S. in Applied Physics and a Master degree in Solid State Physics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Anantha Ganga - Chief Information Officer
Anantha Ganga joined II-VI in September 2019 following the merger of II-VI and Finisar. As CIO, Mr. Ganga is responsible for global IT strategy, modernization, and effective delivery of IT solutions to support II-VI’s business objectives. At Finisar, he served in various roles from 2001 to 2019, including Vice President of Global IT. Prior to Finisar, Mr. Ganga successfully led large-scale enterprise systems implementations and managed services for numerous high-technology customers. He has over 25 years of industry experience developing global IT organizations, with a proven track record of successful M&A integrations. Mr. Ganga holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, India.
Ishrat Hakim - Chief Sales Officer
Ishrat Hakim joined II-VI as the Chief Sales Officer in July 2019. Previously, Mr. Hakim was the Senior Vice President Global Sales for Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH, based out of Regensburg, Germany. Additionally, he also served as the President and CEO of the U.S. subsidiary overseeing all functions in North America. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hakim has served in various executive positions in companies like Avago (now Broadcom), Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor, Sun Microsystems, and Unisys Corporation, building and leading regional and global sales organizations in the semiconductor, software, and systems industries. Mr. Hakim holds a BSEE in Electronics Engineering from Bangalore University in India and has attended the Executive Management Program at Stanford University, California.
Gary A. Kapusta - Chief Procurement Officer
Gary A. Kapusta joined II-VI in February 2016 serving as Chief Procurement Officer. Prior to his employment with the Company, Mr. Kapusta served in various roles at Coca-Cola, including as President & Chief Executive Officer, Coca-Cola Bottlers’ Sales & Services L.L.C., President, Customer Business Solutions and Vice President, Procurement Transformation, Coca-Cola Refreshments. He joined Coca-Cola following a 19year career at Agere Systems, Lucent Technologies, and AT&T. Mr. Kapusta graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering, and an holds an M.B.A from Lehigh University.
Sohail Khan - Executive Vice President, New Ventures & Wide-Bandgap Electronics Technologies
Sohail Khan joined II-VI Incorporated in October 2020 as Executive Vice President, New Ventures & Wide-Bandgap Electronics Technologies. As the leader of this new organization, Khan is responsible for consolidating II-VI’s deep technology expertise in silicon carbide (SiC) substrates, advanced wide-bandgap epitaxy, device fabrication, and module design.? Prior to joining II-VI, Khan was the Managing Partner for K5 Innovations. His previous positions include CEO for ViXS Systems, a UHD video solutions semiconductor company; CEO of Lilliputian Systems, a fuel-cell company; CEO of SiGe Semiconductor, pioneer in delivering Silicon based RF front end solutions; EVP of the Infrastructure Group at Agere Systems, IC & Optical solutions for Data/Telecom Networks; and President of the IC Division of Lucent Microelectronics. Khan holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BSEE from the University of Engineering, Lahore.
Chris Koeppen - Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Koeppen joined II-VI in 2011 via the acquisition of Aegis Lightwave, Inc., where he served as General Manager, Aegis-NJ. He was named General Manager of II-VI’s Agile Network Products Division in 2012 and Director of Corporate Strategic Technology Planning in 2015. He then served as Vice President of the Industrial Laser Group and Corporate Strategic Technology Planning from 2017 until his appointment as Chief Technology Officer in 2019. Previously, Dr. Koeppen was co-founder and CEO of CardinalPoint Optics, prior to its acquisition by Aegis Lightwave. He has more than two decades of progressively increasing general and technology management experience in high-tech companies, including at Meriton Networks, Mahi Networks, Photuris, and Lucent Technologies. Dr. Koeppen holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an AT&T Bell Laboratories Scholar, and B.S. degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University.

Mary Jane Raymond - Chief Financial Officer
Mary Jane Raymond has been Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the Company since March 2014. Previously, Ms. Raymond was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hudson Global, Inc., from 2005 to 2013. Ms. Raymond was the Chief Risk Officer and Vice President and Corporate Controller at Dun and Bradstreet, Inc., from 2002 to 2005. In addition, she was the Vice President, Merger Integration, at Lucent Technologies, Inc., from 1997 to 2002, and held several management positions at Cummins Engine Company from 1988 to 1997. In 2019, Ms. Raymond was named to the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Veeco, Inc. Ms. Raymond holds a B.A. degree in Public Management from St. Joseph’s University, and an MBA from Stanford University.
Shirley Reha – Chief Human Resources Officer
Shirley Reha joined II-VI in September 2019 following the merger of II-VI and Finisar. At Finisar, she was Vice President, Global Employee Services, a role she held since 2017. Ms. Reha has served a number of companies in a wide range of human resource management posts, including Vice President of Human Resources for Space Systems Loral, Trident Microsystems, and Adaptec Inc. Ms. Reha holds a B.A. in Mass Communication and Business Education from Eastern Illinois University and an M.S. in Organizational Communication from Southern Illinois University.
Jo Anne Schwendinger - Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, Corporate Secretary
Jo Anne Schwendinger joined II-VI in March 2017 and serves as the Company’s General Counsel and Secretary. Prior to her employment with the Company, Ms. Schwendinger practiced law with the law firm Blank Rome, LLP from August 2016 until February 2017. Previously, Ms. Schwendinger served in various legal roles at Deere & Company from February 2000 until August 2016, including Regional General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel. Ms. Schwendinger holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Université d’Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse, a Master’s degree from the Université de Strasbourg, Maitrise and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh Law School.
Chris Theis - Chief Quality Officer
Chris Theis joined II-VI in September 2019 following the merger of II-VI and Finisar. At Finisar, he was most recently Vice President of Quality, a position he held since 2017. Dr. Theis has over 20 years of experience in the optoelectronics industry and has served in a number of quality and reliability roles throughout his career. He started as a reliability engineer in the microelectronics division at Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories, where he worked to develop some of the first non-hermetic active optical devices. He moved to Optium Corporation in 2005 and became the Quality and Reliability Manager for their rapidly growing 300-pin transponder business. Optium was acquired by Finisar Corporation in 2008, and Dr. Theis became the Quality and Reliability Director responsible for all of Finisar’s telecommunications products before being appointed Vice President of Quality in 2017 and relocating to the Bay Area. He holds a B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.
